Simple Ceremonies & the Hanson Brothers' Weddings
Most brides and grooms who are going down the aisle now probably remember the pop hit “MMMBop” from 1997. The song hit #1 in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, partially spurred on by the screaming girls who were crazy for Hanson – the young trio behind the song.
When the song hit the charts, the boys were all in their teens: Isaac was 17, Taylor was 14, and Zac was 12. For their fans, the Hanson brothers may always be trapped at those ages, but all three of the brothers have actually married and started their own grown-up lives.
Eldest Last
On September 30, 2006, Isaac said “I do” to his long-time girlfriend, Nicole Summer Dufresne, in a ceremony held at an art museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Although he was the oldest brother, he was actually the last to tie the knot.
A few months earlier in June, youngest brother Zac was married to his girlfriend, Kathryn Rebecca Tucker. The couple had been together for five years before exchanging vows in a private ceremony at a Baptist church in Atlanta, Georgia.
While Isaac and Zac are still newlyweds, middle brother Taylor has been married for years. On June 8, 2002, Taylor and his girlfriend, Natalie Anne Bryant, were married at a church in Pine Mountain, Georgia after dating for two years. Later that same year, Taylor and Natalie has their first child followed by another child in 2005 and a third who was born about three weeks before Isaac's wedding in 2006.
Besides being surprised that those adorable boys grew up and got married, what can you learn from the Hanson brothers' marriages?
Small Can be Best
One thing you can learn is that sometimes weddings aren't better when they are huge affairs with hundreds of guests, catered receptions, fireworks over the castle, etc. Basically, your wedding doesn't have to be huge to be wonderful. All three of the Hanson brothers were married in private ceremonies in small venues in locations that were important to them. They didn't travel halfway around the world.
Does It have to be in Church?
Another thing you can learn is that ceremonies can take place in lots of different places, not just churches. Although both Taylor and Zac were married in churches, Isaac opted to have his ceremony held in a museum. Most couples would probably not have even considered their local museum, but these facilities generally have designated special event areas which can be rented out for the celebration. Perhaps the best part of having your wedding in a museum is that you don't have to spend much on decorations. The art around you and your guests sets the tone for the wedding.
Of course, art museums aren't the only option. Botanical gardens, historic buildings, zoos, and aquariums could also be ideal locations for weddings. And don't forget about your public parks. Although you will need to have the proper permits, you could have a beautiful ceremony in a public park in your area, an especially good idea for a spring or fall wedding.
The bottom line is that you don't have to have a glamorous wedding packed with people you barely know to have a beautiful ceremony. Sometimes, as the Hanson brothers obviously know, simple is better.
